    A REPORT ON LIBRARY AND INFORMATION CENTRE at PM SHRI KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA DIMAPUR, NAGALAND

    Kendriya Vidyalaya Dimapur maintains a high standard of academic excellence with the help of highly qualified and efficient faculties and also provides facilities for all-round development of its students by making available opportunities for games/sports/scouts & guides and Co-Curricular activities (C.C.A).

    The current Principal of our school is Mr M H Shimray. Our Vidyalaya is blessed to have a Principal who is leading from the front to motivate teachers and students to take up online teaching & learning.

    The School Library of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dimapur caters to the information needs of about 40 staff members and nearly 950 students including both primary and secondary students. The library is on the 1st floor in a room of size 45 ft*20 ft.

    The Kendriya Vidyalaya Dimapur Library is fully automated with E-granthalaya 3.0.

    The Library provides a welcoming learning environment for students and staff; supports the school’s aims and curriculum; encourages the love of reading and the development of students’ independent learning skills.

    It is the motivation, inspiration and blessings provided by the Principal and all our teaching staff that is paving the way for better infrastructure and services in the library.

    Out of the 8616 books on stock, library has about 3400 Reference books i.e. Encyclopaedia, Dictionaries, Directory, Handbooks, Annual Reports and subject reference books. Other resources include previous years CBSE Exam question papers of X & XII. The library has recently added to the collection of 1612 books from Kendriya Vidyalaya Zakhama to the stock of Kendriya Vidyalaya Dimapur.

    Books are arranged according to subject-wise and broadly classified by Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme. The books are arranged in 27 separate almirahs, 3 separate racks for magazines are present in the library and newspapers are displayed daily on the newspaper stand outside the library.  The Library provides internet access with 5 computer systems. The library has 6 Tables and 50 chairs for the Students as well as a Teachers Corner with 1 Table and 6 chairs.

    Various competitions related to reading and creative writing are organized to encourage extra reading. Library Blog/Website has been created in wordpress.com. The address is http://librarykvdimapur.wordpress.com

    Opening Hours: The library is open every school day from 07:30 a.m. to 02:30 p.m.
    Library Periods: According to the school time table the students of Class VI-XII can visit the library for the issue and return of the books during their library periods. They can refer books and participate in library activities during this time. Lunch break also children are allowed to use the library facilities.

    Class Libraries: Class libraries are functioning for classes I to V.

    Library policy is followed by this Vidyalaya and provides the following library services:-

    1. Students can borrow maximum 02 books in a week during their library periods for home use and staff can borrow 05 books for a fortnight.
    2. The books have been issued to its members through register system which is separately maintained for each class. However the provision of Class Libraries are implemented for classes I to V.
    3. E granthalaya 3.0 software is in use in the library to keep record of users and the books.
    4. Best book review displayed on the notice board from time to time.
    5. Moral Education and Career Guidance provides to the students by the librarian in their library periods.
    6. Library Manual (Rules) is displayed on notice board.
    7. Library committee has been formed every year for smooth conduct of library activities and services.
    8. Displays of new books as per new arrivals is being carried out effectively.
    9. Weeded out books has been kept separately.
    10. Readers Club also has been recently formed and reader’s club activities will be organized for the library users.
